Oct. 05--Chicago police are alerting residents and businesses on the West Side and Northwest Side about 11 robberies that have occurred in the area over the past two and a half weeks.
Someone robbed two small businesses, located within two blocks of each other in the Belmont Central neighborhood, during the past week, according to a police news release.
In both incidents, three male teenagers walked into a business, displayed a black handgun and demanded money from the cash register. In one robbery, they also stole from customers in a store.
The latest robbery happened around 12:20 p.m. Sunday in the 6300 block of West Grand Avenue. The second robbery occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 27 in the 6100 block of West Grand.
All three suspects are black male teenagers ages 15 to 17. All three were 5-foot-6 and about 150 pounds. They all had black hair.
One suspect was in a black-hooded sweatshirt, another suspect wore a gray-hooded sweatshirt, and the third suspect had a black-hooded sweatshirt with red strings.
In the Albany Park neighborhood, three women were forcibly robbed of their property within about one and a half mile of each other over the past week.
In the latest incident, a 24-year-old woman was in the 4400 block of North Lawndale Avenue around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday when an unknown male attacker approached her and forcibly took her property. On the same day, a 34-year-old woman was robbed in the 3600 block of West Lawrence Avenue around 2:30 p.m.
The third incident happened around 4 p.m. Monday in the 3400 block of West Lawrence, where a 22-year-old woman was the victim.
In two of the robberies, a suspect is a black man age 40 to 45, police said. The man is 5-foot-9 to 6-foot-2. He has short black hair with a birthmark or an impairment on his face. He was wearing a black coat.
In one of the incidents, a suspect is described as a black man who is between 22 and 23 years old. He is 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7. He also had black hair and was wearing a black coat.
Two robberies happened in the West Garfield neighborhood between Sept. 20 and Thursday, according to another release from the police.
In both cases, an attacker approached victims on the street and used force and the threat of force by displaying a handgun in order to steal jewelry, wallets, cash and credit cards.
One incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. Thursday in the 400 block of North Homan Avenue, and a second robbery took place around 12:05 a.m. Sept. 20 in the 4300 block of West Washington Boulevard.
A suspect is a black man age 18 to 20. The man had red dreadlocks.
A separate series of four robberies occurred between Sept. 19 and Saturday on the West Side, according to police.
In all incidents, an attacker used force and the threat of force, by displaying a handgun or a knife, to steal cellphones, wallets and credit cards from residents walking on the street.
The latest incident happened around 6:05 a.m. Saturday in the 3300 block of West Harrison Street in the Homan Square neighborhood, and another robbery occurred around 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the 4300 block of West Van Buren Street in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, according to police.
In the Lawndale neighborhood, two more robberies occurred. One incident took place around 6:10 a.m. Sept. 22 in the 3000 block of West Flournoy Street, and another incident happened around 11:15 p.m. on Sept. 19 in the 1100 block of South Pulaski Avenue, police said.
One suspect is a black man age 19 to 28 and is 5-foot-8 to 6 feet tall, police said. Another suspect is a black man age 38 to 43. He is between 5-foot-9 and 6 feet tall. He weighs 190 to 210 pounds and has a medium complexion, police said.
