Emergency services raced to a fire in Jerviston, Motherwell, last night.
It is understood the large blaze took hold at a Spar shop located on Merry Street.
The street was closed off last night to allow firefighters to bring the flames under control.
Various road diversions remain in place this morning and the public are being asked to avoid the area.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We are dealing with an ongoing incident at Merry Street in Motherwell involving a fire at commercial premises.
“This is a joint operation with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and has resulted in a road closure on Merry Street at its junctions with Jerviston Road and the A723.
“There is no immediate danger to local residents and the incident is contained. However, members of the public are asked to avoid the area and follow the diversions put in place.”
A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: "Scottish Fire & Rescue are continuing to fight are fire on Merry Street which is causing an interruption to the water supply for customers in the Motherwell area.
"The fire service are drawing water from the network to tackle the blaze and this is what is causing the water outage in the area.
"Whilst this is ongoing, please be aware that you may experience no water supply or low / intermittent water pressure. You may also experience discoloured water."
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 6.26pm on Sunday, July 19 to reports of a fire within a building on Merry Street, Motherwell.
“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and one aerial appliance to the scene where firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.
“A fire appliance and an aerial appliance remain in attendance and are working to make the area safe.
“There are no reported casualties.”
