Police warn people who fly drones over Goose Fair they could face prosecution

People who fly drones over the Goose Fair could face prosecution, Nottinghamshire Police has warned.

While flying a drone above the famous fair might seem appealing, a 150-metre "no-fly zone" will be put in place for all unmanned aerial vehicles.

The Goose Fair will run from Wednesday, October 2 until Sunday, October 6, and the event is expected to attract an estimated 500,000 people to the Forest Recreation Ground.

Nottinghamshire Police said flying a drone in the no-fly zone would put the pilot in breach of the Air Navigation Order 2016.

Anyone breaching this could face prosecution and have their drone equipment seized by officers who will be conducting patrols around the fair.

Superintendent Paul Winter said: "We work closely with the Civil Aviation Authority who provide the regulations around the use of unmanned aerial vehicles.

"It would be illegal for anyone to fly a drone over or on the site while the Goose Fair is taking place as, under law, it will be classed as a congested area.

"Any such illegal flying of drones over the Goose Fair would be in breach of the Air Navigation Order 2016.

"Therefore the skies above the Goose Fair, and a 150-metre area surrounding the event, will be a no-fly zone for drones. Any drones flown outside of this 150m area would still be over residential property which would also be illegal.

"Anyone who flouts these laws will be committing an offence and could face prosecution and having their equipment seized.

"We have concerns that people could cause a safety risk in flying drones over the site and so we will take positive action if any such incident was to take place.

"We want everyone visiting the Goose Fair to act responsibly, have fun and go home safely. We hope you all have a fantastic time."
