Police warn of threat of 'serious violence' involving weapons in part of Cardiff and introduce emergency order

Police have been given stronger powers to stop and search anyone in one area of Cardiff amid concern of "incidents of serious violence" which might take place.

A section 60 notice came into force at 7pm on Wednesday evening, March 17, and ends at 7am on Thursday, March 18. It gives officers the authority to stop and search anyone in an area around Wentloog Avenue, Cardiff.

A statement from South Wales Police said: "This decision has been taken after information has been provided concerning incidents of serious violence which may take place in the area.

"Section 60 is aimed at preventing serious violence, to find dangerous instruments or to apprehend persons carrying weapons. There is a real concern that this matter could escalate."

Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to contact police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
