Police warn of spike in 'sneak-in burglaries' during coronavirus lockdown

Police have warned residents about sneak-in burglaries during the coronavirus lockdown period after a spike in reports.

Four sneak-in burglaries were reported in just five days in one small village in Bolton.

In all of the burglaries in Over Hulton, entry was gained via insecure doors and windows - with thieves being in and out of the home 'within seconds', said officers.

Neighbourhood police teams have been patrolling in the affected areas, but police are asking people to make sure their homes are safely locked up.

In a Facebook post, officers from GMP Bolton South said: "Over the last five days there have been four reported 'sneak in' burglaries in and around the Over Hulton area of Bolton where entry was gained via insecure doors and windows.

"Opportunist thieves can be in and out of your home within seconds.

"Please keep doors and windows locked, even when you are at home."
