Police warn of lottery ticket scam on the Northwest Side

Chicago police said two people with lottery tickets have gotten away with people’s property on the Northwest Side in June of 2019.

Scammers are using lottery tickets to take people’s property in Portage Park and Dunning on the Northwest Side, according to police.

In both cases, two people approached someone with what they said was a winning lottery ticket and asked the person to redeem it for them, Chicago police said in an alert. The pair then fled in a vehicle after convincing the person to give them personal property.

An incident took place at 10:30 a.m. June 25 in the 4900 block of West Roscoe Street, police said. A second happened at 12:27 p.m. June 27 in the 6400 block of West Irving Park Road.

Police are looking for a 27 to 45-year-old woman who is between 5-foot-2 and 5-foot-7 and identifies herself as “Guadalupe.”

Authorities are also looking for a 25 to 40-year-old man with short hair who stands 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-10.

Anyone with information should call Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.
