Police warn locals as East Lothian teens reported to be 'carrying weapons'

Police in East Lothian have warned locals to be aware after reports of teens as young as 14 are discovered to be carrying weapons.

Officers have stated that there has been a sharp rise in the amount of youth related disorder, particularly in the Musselburgh area.

A selection of incidents over the weekend showing the teens carrying out offences have also been recorded and posted on social media.

This week, police have confirmed that an investigation is now underway, with four youths aged from 14-15 being reported for a host of offences ranging from assault to possessing offensive weapons.

Additional rescources have also been deployed to "deal with any further incidents".

On Monday evening, the East Lothian Police said:

"We work closely with East Lothian Council Safer Communities team and together take a zero tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour. Those identified as being involved will be charged and may be visited at home by Police Officers and representatives from East Lothian Council.

"Should you see or be experiencing any form of ASB or criminality please report it to us on 101 or 999 in an emergency or to East Lothian Council anti-social behaviour reporting line on 01875 824307."
