Police warn fines could be handed out to inconsiderate road users at Divis and Black Mountain

The police have warned they will fine obstructing drivers as large numbers of vehicles descend on Divis and Black Mountain.

Last week the National Trust issued an appeal to the public after there was "huge amounts of traffic on Divis Mountain" and reports of dangerous roadside parking.

Police were asked to get involved to help ease the congestion caused by the large number of vehicles.

Today, the force has warned that they have received further reports of high volumes of vehicles at the beauty spots and have said that they will fine anyone who is causing an obstruction.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Once again we are receiving reports of a high volume of vehicles parked on Divis Road for the Divis and Black Mountain walking trails.

"We would like to remind everyone to be respectful to other road users. Where vehicles are causing unnecessary obstructions fines will be considered.

"Police will be monitoring the area throughout the day."

Last week the National Trust warned that the large number of vehicles was leading to some being parked dangerously.

It said: "The nicer weather today means our outdoor places are experiencing an increase in visitor numbers and the car parks are likely to be full.

"If you are planning to visit please check the website for the latest travel information before setting out on your journey."
