Police urge people not to be vigilantes after child sex arrest

Residents in Neath Abbey have been reassured by police after concerns circulated on social media about a man arrested on suspicion of a child sex offence.

They have also warned people not to take the law into their own hands following the arrest.

Officers from South Wales Police arrested the man on Friday, March 29, on suspicion of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

The 35-year-old was subsequently released on bail pending further investigation and is subject to stringent conditions, police have said.

Inspector Roy Portlock said: “I appreciate and understand the concerns of the local community following this arrest, however I would like to assure them that the individual concerned is subject to strict bail conditions while our enquiries continue.

“He has not been returned to the location of the arrest and I would appeal to the community to refrain from engaging in vigilante behaviour and taking the law into their own hands.”
