Police want you to see this chilling image before getting behind the wheel

Police have shared this image of a mangled car they want drivers to see before getting behind the wheel.

North West Motorway Police shared the images of the vehicle following a collision yesterday afternoon on the M62.

The images show the red car completely destroyed after smashing into a motorway barrier, reports the Mirror.

Miraculously the driver survived the impact but suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital by air ambulance.

The force said poor driving conditions due to wet weather could have led to the smash.

They wrote: “The RTC on the M62 has been handed over to @HighwaysNWEST  for repairs & recovery. WB (westbound) remains closed at present.

“Just the driver on board who has survived & taken to hospital with injuries.

"A combination of poor driving and wet weather being the cause.”

The M62 was closed in both directions while emergency crews dealt with the incident.

Both carriageways were completely blocked between junction 21, for Milnrow and Rochdale, and junction 22, for Denshaw.

This affected traffic travelling in both directions.

Highways England warned drivers to take care during the wet weather.

They tweeted: “There was an incident at about 11:20am between junction 22 and junction 21. A car hit a lamppost on the central reservation.

“Contractors are currently on site to remove the lamppost, but the weather is making the operation difficult.

“They will also put a temporary central reservation in to make sure it is safe for drivers.”
