Police want to speak to this man following six arson attacks in Manchester city centre

Police have released CCTV footage of a man they want to speak to following a spate of arson attacks in Manchester city centre.

Six bags of rubbish were deliberately ignited on Peter Street, Lloyd Street and Deansgate during a 45 minute period in the early hours of the morning on Wednesday, March 20.

There were no reports of any injuries, but the blazes caused damage to several city centre businesses.

Greater Manchester Police are treating all six fires as linked.

The arson attacks took place between 3.05am and 3.45am.

GMP have released CCTV footage of a man they want to speak to about the incidents.

Detective Constable Annabel Lewis, of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “Businesses have suffered external damage and cracked windows as part of this spate of arson attacks.

“Thankfully, no one was injured and the fires were relatively contained, but this could have been a different story.

“Whoever is responsible for these attacks has put lives at risk, as well as tying up the resources of the emergency services.

Several businesses were left with cracked windows and external damage. (GMP)

Details can be reported to police by calling 0161 856 4409 quoting incident number 209 of 20/03/19.

Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
