Police want to speak to this man after early morning break-in at South Shields home

An investigation is under way after a break-in at a home in South Shields.

At around 4am on June 21, police were contacted by a member of the public who reported a male was acting suspiciously in the Spohr Terrace area.

It was then discovered that a man had broken into another home on the street before he was disturbed by the occupant and made off empty-handed.

Officers have now released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the burglary.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "An investigation was launched into the incident, and as part of their ongoing enquiries, officers have identified a man they would like to trace.

"He was in the area at the time of the incident and could have valuable information that can assist officers with the investigation.

"The man, or anyone who knows him, is asked to contact police by ringing 101 or using the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website quoting log 263 210620."
