Police want to speak to second lorry driver after body found on M5 near Gloucester

Police are asking for help identifying a lorry spotted near the M5 where a body was found earlier this week.

The body was recovered from the southbound carriageway between J11 for Brockworth and J12 for Quedgeley on Wednesday (October 30).

Officers are now wishing to speak to the driver of a lorry which was parked on the hard shoulder near Gloucester services early on Wednesday morning.

A statement issued by Gloucestershire Constabulary reads: "The lorry driver, or anyone with information which could assist the investigation, is asked to call police on 101 and quote incident 34 of 30 October."

Lane closures were in place for most of Wednesday as officers responded to the report, with the final closure being lifted yesterday (Thursday, October 31).

The initial call to the police came from a lorry driver - different to the one now being sought - at around 4.09am.

When the driver pulled into the hard shoulder to perform the call between junctions 11A and 12, another lorry was already parked further ahead.

It is this second lorry which the police are now keen to identify, with the desire to speak to the driver as a witness.

It is believed this lorry would have been stationary between 4am and 4.15am, but no further details about the vehicle are known.

A Gloucestershire police spokesperson added: "At this time the death is not being treated as suspicious but an investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances around the death. Efforts are continuing to identify the person who died."

They added: "Officers are still keen to hear from anyone who has not yet contacted police who travelled between junctions 11 and 12 on either carriageway between 3.45am and 4.15am on Wednesday."

Information can be given to police by calling 101 and quoting incident 34 of October 30. Alternatively, information can be given through this link.
