Police vs privacy: New law plan angers Bavarians

A new law has been passed broadening police powers in southern Germany, despite an outcry from people in Bavaria who fear their privacy is under threat.

Bavaria's new Police Task Act allows police to conduct intrusive surveillance, extend detention to 90 days without charge, and designate specific areas as "danger zones", based on a more loosely defined criteria of "imminent danger".
