Lanarkshire community police officers visited a Motherwell high school to give young people a better insight into the work of officers.
Members of the Wishaw Community Police team attended Braidhurst High School to give the young people a guided tour of the bikes officers are using to make a real difference in the community regarding illegal use of off road motorbikes and quads.
School campus Officer, PC Ross Boyle arranged the important visit.
He told Lanarkshire Live : “Part of my job in the school is to highlight the dangers pupils might face in the community.
“I thought what better way to highlight dangers faced by off road bikes than to have the specialist officers using them attend and talk it through.
“PC’s Aird and Welsh came down to the school and discussed how the bikes have helped keep their families safe by tackling people riding on footpaths, country lanes and parks where off road bikes are often being ridden with complete disregard for people’s safety.
“The officers showed them round the tools we use to enforce and educate people on illegal riding and they were well impressed.
“The message really got across to the young people and they had a new found respect for the police on bikes and seemed intent on spreading the word amongst their friends that it just isn’t safe to ride them in public not to mention the trouble you can get in to if caught by the police.”
If found riding an off road bike in public you could face the bike being seized, being charged for various road traffic offences and also risk a parent of guardian also being charged for causing and permitting offences.
