A police car responding to an emergency call was left badly damaged after crashing with another car in the Southport area.
No-one was seriously injured in the collision, which happened at 3.25pm yesterday (Saturday) at the junction of Waterloo Road and Sandon Road in Birkdale. A member of the public and one of the officers were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The crash left both the police car and the Volvo seriously damaged, with debris scattered across a wide area. The incident happened close to a busy pub, and a road closure was put in place while the scene was cleared.

One witness said: "I only heard the incident, by the time I turned around both cars were stopped, the female officer was sat on a bench in visible shock, the male officer jumped straight out with head wounds to help the other injured parties."
A police spokesperson said: "Merseyside Police can confirm a police car and a car belonging to a member of the public were involved in a collision in Southport on the afternoon of Saturday, May 21.
"The police car was responding to an emergency call at the time of the collision at 3.25pm. The member of the public and one of the officers were taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries."
