Police vehicle damaged after crash with car in Rochdale

This is the aftermath of a crash involving a police vehicle in Rochdale this evening.

A second car was also involved in the smash, which happened in Upper George Street at 5.50pm. Pictures from the scene showed the damage to the police vehicle, which was parked up by the junction with Stott Street.

Eyewitness reported seeing a large police presence in the area following the incident. It is not clear whether anyone has been injured in the crash, or whether any arrests have been made.

Firefighters were called to the scene, which is about half a mile from Rochdale town centre.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At 5.50pm on Tuesday 27 June, fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Upper George Street, Rochdale.

“One fire engine from Littleborough station quickly attended the scene. The incident involved two cars, one of which was a police vehicle.

“Firefighters helped make the area safe before handing the scene over to Greater Manchester Police. Fire crews were in attendance for about half an hour.”

Greater Manchester Police has been approached for further information.
