Police urge residents to check gardens and sheds for missing pensioner George Dodds

Residents in South Tyneside have been asked to be vigilant as police continue their search for missing pensioner George Dodds.

Officers are urging people to check their gardens and sheds as they are becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare.

The 72-year-old was reported missing on Friday afternoon after leaving his home on Woodlands View in Cleadon at around 1pm.

Detective Superintendent Lyn Peart, who is leading the search for George, is asking the public to be on the lookout.

She said: “Enquiries to try and locate George are ongoing but police and his family are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.

“There have been some reported sightings but we still need the public to be vigilant and help bring him home safely.

“George has problems with his memory and he may appear lost or confused. So it is really important that if anyone sees him or has information about where he may be, then please get in touch with officers.”

Supt Paul Milner added: “We are growing increasingly concerned for George’s welfare and are grateful to the public for helping to share the appeal and look for George.

"We would ask people in the Cleadon and South Tyneside area to be vigilant and check their gardens and sheds. We really want to bring George home safely.

“Anyone who is able to assist in the search for George  is asked to call 101 quoting log 901 25/04/19.”

George is described as white, of thin build and with short white hair.

He is believed to be wearing a dark puffer jacket, blue trousers, dark shoes and a black beanie hat.
