Police widen search for wanted man after incident in Whitburn

Police are urging the public not to approach a wanted man who is being hunted after an assault in South Tyneside.

Officers are continuing to hunt the suspect after carrying out searches of two parks in the area.

Residents were asked to stay away from Cleadon Hill Park, near Whitburn and Temple Park in South Shields but have now been told those searches are over. However, the suspect is yet to be tracked down.

Shortly before 1am on Wednesday police received a report of an assault at a home in Whitburn, but when they arrived, the suspect had fled the scene.

A search to find the man was concentrated the parks and the police helicopter was looking for the suspect.

The male, aged in his late 50s, was last seen wearing a camouflage brown and black jacket with black jeans, brown boots and a brown hunting style hat.

Anyone already in the area and who sees a man matching that description is asked not to approach him.

Instead they should contact Northumbria Police on 999 quoting incident number 28 of 250320.
