Police urge holidaymakers to stay alert for terror attacks abroad this summer

Counter Terrorism police have urged holidaymakers to stay alert for attacks abroad this summer.

Officers have asked families to watch the four-minute "run, hide, tell" safety video before travel which offers guidance on what to do in the event of a gun or knife terror attack.

Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) first issued to video in 2017 and it will be promoted again on social media in the run up to the summer holiday period.

Detective Chief Superintendent Michael Orchard, co-ordinator of CTP's Protect and Prepare, said: "The chances of being caught up in a terror attack are incredibly small, but we know that people like to know how to react should the worst happen.

"We want people to think of this in the same way they do the safety film on airlines, a sensible safety precaution that they will likely never have to use, but one that could still save your life or the lives of others."

Since the terror attack in Sousse, Tunisia in 2015, which claimed the lives of 30 Brits, CTP has upped its international work which includes the video which has been translated into 15 languages so it can be watched by hotel and security staff abroad.

The Foreign Office is also encouraging holidaymakers to read its travel advice before travel.

Security Minister Ben Wallace said: "I ask that holidaymakers take a minute before they travel to watch the Run, Hide, Tell film, which offers practical advice and could end up saving their lives should the worst happen."
