Police urge drivers to slow down on the M1 due to standing water

Police have urged drivers to slow down on the M1 due to standing water.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit tweeted "M1. Chucking it down. Standing water. Spray. Lots of traffic. Slow down." on Tuesday at 11.30am.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain for Tuesday.

Rain is expected to batter the region from 8am to 11pm and a number of roads are at risk of flooding.

Nottinghamshire Police  has also issued a warning to homes and businesses that may be prone to flooding.

Traffic monitoring websites are also reporting a crash at junction 29 of the M1 involving "multiple vans".

Traffic was stopped completely on the M1 at around 11.20am.
