Police urge drivers to 'fit alarms' after boy, 17, arrested for stealing 15 vehicles

A 17-YEAR-OLD male has been arrested in connection with 15 stolen vehicles in Fife.

On Tuesday August 26, police responded to a number of incidents involving allegedly stolen vehicles in north-west Kirkcaldy.

A proactive policing operation was carried out and Police Scotland’s Community Investigation and Prevention Unit (CIPU), leading to the arrest of the 17-year-old, who was charged with theft and intended theft.

He is due to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court at a later date.

Police have encouraged drivers to take a number of preventative measures to lower the chances of their car being stolen.

They have urged car owners to fit alarms, use locking wheel nuts, and warned they should never leave their car open and unattended.

Constable Jennifer Douglas of the CIPU said: “We know how unsettling incidents of this nature can be for our communities, and I want to reassure the public that we are committed to tackling acquisitive crime robustly.

“This arrest is the result of dedicated work by our officers, who acted swiftly on intelligence and community reports to bring this individual into custody.

“I would also like to thank local residents for their cooperation and assistance during this investigation.”
