Police update on M62 crash that killed 21-year-old 'dancing queen'

Police have issued an update on a horror crash that killed a 21-year-old woman.

Kate Swale was named locally as the woman who was killed in a crash on the M62 in the early hours of Saturday. She was travelling as a passenger at the time of the incident between junction 5 for Roby and junction 6 for Tarbock Island.

A man was also taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which were described as non-life threatening by police. Merseyside Police has now confirmed a 22-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, has been released under investigation to receive hospital treatment and is assisting enquiries.

Hundreds of tributes have flooded in for Kate following the tragic news of her death this weekend. Writing on the ECHO's Facebook page, Daisy Fredson said: "Life will never be the same. Rest in paradise gorgeous girl, our dancing queen."

Abbie Brady said: "Love you forever and always our best girl. You were one of a kind, nothing will be the same without you."

Laura Anderson said: "Absolutely devastated I looked after my gorgeous little Kate from aged 2-4 years. She was the most amazing little love, stole my heart, still has."

Becky Gregory said: "Beautiful Kate…at a loss for words x."

Paula Croucher said: "The kindest soul who lit up the room and was the soul of the party, always a smile, don’t know what we’re gonna do without you gorgeous girl. Missing you already. Give your mum, dad and brothers some strength to get through. Love you forever."
