North West Ambulance Service took the boy to Alder Hey with serious injuries.

The driver of the Kia Venga stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Merseyside Police has now confirmed the 13-year-old is no longer critical, and that he remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Princess Drive was completely closed to traffic from Burtree Road to Rothbury Road for around five hours while investigation work was carried out last night.

Around a dozen police cars were at the scene of the crash with officers advising the public and motorists how to navigate the cordon.

The cordon included the car park in front of the Finch Road row of shops and a nearby bus stop.

The police cordon, which spanned for over a quarter of a mile, was lifted just before midnight on Tuesday.
