Police update on Armley incident that saw row of shops cordoned off

Police have issued a brief update after a cordon was erected on Armley Town Street yesterday (Sunday) - although mystery still surrounds the incident.

Several shops on the busy street in west Leeds, including the Post Office and Coral, were taped off by officers at around 2pm on Sunday, February 16.

A number of people told LeedsLive that they believed a shoplifter was attacked, although the force was unable to verify these claims at the time.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police has now confirmed some details about what happened, but the circumstances that led to the attack remain unclear.

They said: "Police took a report of an assault at Town Street, Armley at 11am on Sunday 16 February.

"Officers attended, enquiries are ongoing."
