Police update in Madeleine McCann case over claims body is buried in woodland

Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have said the missing Brit's body will not be found in the woods surrounding the Praia da Luz resort.

Portuguese police are said to have told German investigators that the woodland near the hotel where Madeleine went missing has already been searched extensively.

The report comes just days after a clairvoyant spoke out over the missing girl's case, reports Birmingham Live.

Madeleine vanished at the age of just three from the Algarve in May 2007.

Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann - who live in Leicestershire - have vowed to never give up on finding their missing daughter.

Clairvoyant Michael Schneider has given police the exact co-ordinates of the spot where he believes they will find her body after the girl vanished from Praia da Luz on May 3 in 2007.

Schneider, 50, a former TV reporter, said: “I do not give out such information lightly and without constantly questioning myself because I am very well aware of the responsibility of what I do.”

People usually gather in her home village of Rothley in Leicestershire to mark the anniversary.

But due to Covid restrictions, that could not happen this year.

Mr and Mrs McCann said: "Every May is tough - a reminder of years passed, of years together lost, or stolen.

"This year it is particularly poignant as we should be celebrating Madeleine's 18th birthday. Enough said."

"We hang on to the hope, however small, that we will see Madeleine again," they said.

"As we have said repeatedly, we need to know what has happened to our lovely daughter, no matter what. We are very grateful to the police for their continued efforts."
