Police update after woman's body found by walkers

Police have ruled out foul play after a woman's body was found by walkers in a wooded area at the weekend.

Officers from Merseyside Police could be seen looking through a grassy area close to the junction of East Lancs Road and Lower Lane in Croxteth.

At the weekend police confirmed emergency services attended the scene after the sad news a body was found earlier on Sunday afternoon at around 3pm.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Now police have given an update and said foul play had been ruled out regarding the woman's s death.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said there were "no suspicious circumstances" and added: "A file is being prepared for the coroner."

The woman's identity has not been released at this stage.

The ECHO understands the woman's body was discovered by walkers who were out in the area this afternoon.

The area where the body was found is close to Croxteth's Stonedale Retail Park, which contains the Showcase Cinema and fast food outlets which have all remained closed under lockdown.

Photos taken at the scene showed a large white forensics tent erected in a clearing between some of the trees.

A Merseyside Police van could be seen parked nearby, with police tape cordoning off the immediate area as officers guard the scene.
