Police update after Weston-super-Mare arsons

Police have released an update after 14 'suspicious' vehicle fires in Weston-super-Mare earlier this week.

Fire crews were called to several vehicle fires at the seaside town where the cause has been determined to have been "deliberate ignition". At the time, Avon and Somerset Police said it was aware of around 14 vehicles that were damaged by fire overnight, but that there have been no reports of injuries.

The force has now released this update: "Police enquiries continue after more than a dozen vehicles were damaged by fire in Weston-super-Mare in the early hours of Wednesday, May 18.

"We were called at about 4am to the first report, in Wooler Road, and found more fire-damaged vehicles in Gerard Road, Arundell Road, Upper Church Road, Cecil Road and Kewstoke Road. Thankfully no one was injured.

"Officers carried out extensive searches of the area, including deploying a drone, in a bid to trace those responsible. House to house enquiries have been carried out and a thorough investigation is underway alongside Avon Fire & Rescue Service, including a painstaking review of CCTV footage.

"Detectives still want to hear from anyone with dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage or any other information which could which could help. Please call 101 and give the reference 5222117183."
