POLICE have issued an update after they were called to a Fife shopping centre over concerns that a firearm had been found.

Officers arrived at Marchmont Gate next to Kingdom Shopping Centre on Saturday afternoon, after being alerted to a possible sighting of a firearm.

The area was initially taped off by police.

The reported item was taken by police and examined before police confirmed it to be a BB gun.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.50pm on Saturday, June, 6, we were called to Marchmont Gate, Glenrothes, following a report of what appeared to be a firearm found.

“Officers attended, and the item was removed for examination. It has been confirmed as a BB gun.”
