Police update after man stabbed in neck and gun fired on residential street

A man stabbed in the neck has been discharged from hospital as police try to establish how and why he came by his injuries.

Eliza Street, in Hulme, was taped off at the junction with Royce Road on Monday morning following the horrendous attack, during which a gunshot was also heard.

Police were called at around 3.40am on Monday February 7 to reports of a disturbance on the street.

A firearm had been discharged and a 49-year-old man was stabbed.

The victim was taken to hospital with a stab wound to the neck, and yesterday his condition was described as serious.

Asked if the incident was gang related or a personal dispute, Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: "This is an ongoing investigation and enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident.

"This is believed to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.

"The victim has since been discharged from hospital.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 4409 quoting incident number 309 of 07/02/22.

"Reports can also be made anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

One resident living near to the scene reported hearing a 'loud bang' at about 3am on Monday.
