Police update after man, in his 20s, slashed in city centre attack

A man was slashed in a city centre attack this weekend.

Police confirm they were called to report of an assault on Seel Street, at around 4.50am, on Sunday, December 12.

When officers arrived at the scene they found a man, in his 20s, had wounds to his legs, buttocks and hand after being slashed.

It is believed that the victim was involved in an 'altercation' with another man before being attacked.

The victim has since been discharged from hospital , Merseyside Police has today confirmed.

A spokesperson told the ECHO: "We are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 12 December.

Officers were contacted by the North West Ambulance Service after the man, who is in his 20s, was found in the area of Seel Street at around 4.50am with slash wounds to his legs and buttocks and an injury to his hand.

"The man was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

"It is believed the injured man was involved in an altercation with another male prior to being injured."

Detective Inspector Phil Ryan said: "Enquiries are in the very early stages to establish what has taken place.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Seel Street or Back Colquitt Street at around 4.50am today who saw or heard anything or any taxi drivers who were in the area who thinks they captured something on their dash cam to come forward and speak to us."
