Police update after 'machete' incident in Bristol street

A man has been released on conditional police bail after a "machete" incident in a Bristol street.

The man was arrested after armed police were deployed to an incident in Bell Hill Road, St George, where two men were seen fighting in the street at around 12pm yesterday (August 10).

Police say the caller believed one man had struck the other with a machete.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary statement reads: "A man has been released on conditional police bail pending further enquiries.

"Officers closed the road as a precaution to ensure the safety of the public.

"As a weapon had been seen, specially-trained armed police officers were involved in the response.

"A man was detained in Bell Hill Road at 1.30pm. He was arrested on suspicion of affray and assault.

"The road reopened at 1.38pm. Officers found a second man in nearby Kensington Road with an injury which did not require an ambulance."
