Police underwater teams pictured beside canal in Marple amid search for missing man

Police underwater search teams were pictured beside a canal in Marple on Monday evening (June 5).

A number of police TAU vans and a specialist water search and marine unit vehicle were at the scene along Brabyns Bow beside the Peak Forest Canal.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted about the reason for the emergency services response and to confirm whether it is linked to the ongoing search for a missing man in the area.

Officers investigating the disappearance of the 31-year-old said they were becoming 'increasingly concerned' about him after he was last seen along Brabyns Brow at 1.23am.

It is unclear whether divers had gone into the canal, which stretches for 15 miles south from Dukinfield and through Marple Locks to Buxworth in the Peak District.

Later on Monday evening, the police presence beside the canal grew, with detectives also reportedly at the scene.
