Police have uncovered a large cannabis factory at a premises on Commercial Road in the Pillgwenlly area of Newport.
Officers are currently in the process of dismantling the drug den at the address after making the discovery yesterday (Thursday, July 30).
A statement from Gwent Police said that a large quantity of cannabis plants had been found – numbering around 200.
One onlooker, who didn't want to be named, said that a section of the pavement outside the property had also been dug up.
They said: "It looks as though whoever is responsible was trying to bypass the electricity somehow, thereby not having to pay for all the power needed to run their hydroponic equipment.
"Probably thought they'd also have less chance being detected that way.
"They were taking a hell of a risk spurring off the mains like that though - could easily have been killed."
