Police uncover huge cannabis farm in disused Sunderland premises

Police have uncovered a cannabis farm with around 500 plants at a disused commercial premises in Sunderland.

Officers received a report of alleged suspicious activity at a premises on Woodbine Street, Sunderland, at around 6.30pm on January 1.

On arrival at the address, they found 500 cannabis plants at various stages of growth which were seized by officers.

Northumbria Police have since launched an investigation to identify those involved in the now dismantled cannabis farm and have asked anyone with information to get in touch.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At 6.30pm on January 1, we received a report of alleged suspicious activity at a disused commercial premises on Woodbine Street, Sunderland.

"Officers attended the address and inside located a cannabis farm with approximately 500 plants at various stages of growth.

"The farm has since been dismantled and the drugs seized. An investigation has been launched to identify those involved in connection with the farm.
