The father of a 19-year-old boy killed after a car smash has told of the desperate efforts to save him.
Car dealership worker Jay Morrison died within hours of an accident involving his Vauxhall Corsa.
His dad Kenny said his “heart was aching” and he wanted to praise the people who tried to save his boy’s life.
It has now emerged police officers worked frantically to try and keep Jay’s heart going after the late night crash.
He was at the wheel of his red Vauxhall Corsa when it left the road.
Kenny, a soldier, said the two officers first at the scene had his gratitude.
He said: “These two officers – who probably get abuse every time they are on duty – did not know my son or me or any of my family.
“They gave Jay, a stranger to them, CPR for 15 minutes until medical help arrived.
“This selfless act by these officers allowed me, my wife and my family some of whom travelled up from England, the precious time we needed to be with him before he passed.
“I do not have the words to tell them how grateful we are to them for affording us that opportunity.
“Thank you so much for the gift you gave my family and Jay time to say goodbye.”
Jay, who lived in Barrhead, was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, in Glasgow.
The incident happened last Friday night around 11.35pm, on Nitshill Road, near its junction with Levern Bridge Road, in Glasgow.
He died in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Jay was a much-loved former pupil of the town’s St Luke’s High.
His elder sister Demi wrote on her social media page: “I’ve never experienced pain and hurt like this in my life.
“The ache I feel is unbearable.
“We love you more then you’ll ever know Jay Morrison.”
And, in a message to him, she said: “My beautiful little brother one the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, was watch you go, I’m so glad you waited for us all and I had the short time with you.”
Sergeant Kenny Malaney, of Police Scotland’s Glasgow Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries into the circumstances of the crash remain ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 4182 of Friday, 17 September, 2021.”
