Police treating Rutherglen incident as 'attempted murder' as man fights for life in hospital

Cops are treating an alleged brutal assault on a Scots street that has left a man fighting for life as attempted murder.

The 51-year-old is in a critical condition in hospital after the incident at around 12.05am today on Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen.

He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he remains.

Pictures from the scene show officers standing guard with a cordon in place while white-suited forensics officers took pictures.

Police Scotland today confirmed they were treating the incident as attempted murder.

A 18-year-old has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries remain ongoing.

A Police Spokesperson said: "Police were called around 12.05am on Thursday, 21 October, 2021, following a report a man had been seriously assaulted in Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen.

"Emergency services attended and a 51-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where medical staff describe his condition as critical.

"An 18-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing."
