CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court has directed the director general of police (DGP) Haryana to provide security to Gurgaonbased RTI activist Harinder Dhingra and his counsel Karanvir Singh Khehar.
The directions have been given by the HC in the wake of a conversation allegedly taken place between one Surinder Kumar Sharma and Puran Prakash Kapoor in which Sharma is claiming that he would eliminate Dhingra who has tried to malign his image in social media by exposing the FIRs registered against him.
“The DGP, Haryana, is directed to immediately go into the matter and after seeing the conversation that is stated to have taken place between one Surinder Kumar Sharma and Puran Prakash Kapoor. He would immediately ensure that the petitioner and his family, as also counsel for the petitioner, are given due protection,” the HC has ordered.
Directions have also been given to the DGP to ensure the life and liberty of Kapoor, who had allegedly leaked the conversation and informed Dhingra about it.
In its detailed order, Justice Amol Rattan Singh of the HC has also observed that the court needs to observe that whereas it is quite possible that the telephonic conversation may only be threats in the air or some kind of bravado on the part of the aforesaid Surinder Kumar Sharma, yet, looking at the entire transcript, it is not possible to ignore it.
“Consequently, if any criminal offence is found to have been made out from the said conversation, action as per law shall be taken by the DGP accordingly,” observed the HC while adjourning the matter for October 14.
The HC has passed these orders after hearing a plea filed by Harinder Dhingra of Gurgaon. Dhingra has been accusing the Gurgaon police commissioner for harassing him and falsely implicating in criminal cases. He was also arrested along with his family members and currently on bail. However, the matter has now been referred to the ADGP (crime) for probe.
In his fresh plea before the HC, Dhingra has also attached an audio clip in which on Surinder Sharma has been heard saying that he will have to kill Dhingra, his wife and his grandson.
