Police to use drones, deploy 950 personnel on New Year's Eve in Kalyan-Dombivli

KALYAN: After the Maharashtra government banned any kind of New Year parties or celebration programmes in any open or closed space due to prevailing Covid-19 situation, the police in twin Kalyan-Dombivli city have decided to use drone cameras to find if anybody violates the guidelines.

The Kalyan zone of Thane police has decided to use 950 policemen including 175 police officers on the New Year's eve in the twin city.

The police are taking this action ahead of the New Year's celebration to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Sachin Gunjal, deputy commissioner of police, Zone 3 in Thane said, "Along with police deployment across the city, we have also planned to use drone cameras in Kalyan-Dombivli to check if anybody was flouting the guidelines."

The Covid-19 cases in twin Kalyan-Dombivli, one of worst affected city in MMR region after Mumbai saw rapid increase in the current week. The cases which had come down up to 10 to 20 daily on Wednesday witness 47 patients in a day.
