Police shut parts of Melbourne's CBD to map Bourke Street attack scene

Victoria Police closed parts of Melbourne's CBD overnight to map out the crime scene of the deadly Bourke Street rampage.

In a Facebook post, police said they were closing Swanston Street, between Little Collins and Bourke streets, and Bourke Street, between Swanston and William streets, to do "detailed mapping" of the area.

The roads was closed at midnight to cars and pedestrians and reopened at 5:00am.

Police said businesses and residents in the area had been advised.

In January, six people died and more than 30 were injured when a car was driven into pedestrians in Bourke Street mall during the busy lunchtime period.

James (Dimitrious) Gargasoulas, 26, was charged with six counts of murder and 28 charges of attempted murder over the incident.

The case remains before the Magistrate's Court.

Police said they would not make any further comment.
