Police to go after curbs violators

Police have been ordered to work with other law enforcement agencies to deal with people who go overboard as Covid-19 restrictions are eased.

National police chief Suwat Jangyodsuk told police units to ensure compliance with restrictions still in force as others are eased as per government instructions issued on Monday, according to deputy police spokesman Krissana Pattanacharoen.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has relaxed restrictions on the public which include shortening the curfew, cutting the quarantine period from 14 to seven days for those arriving in the kingdom fully vaccinated, and allowing live music in restaurants.

However, restaurants are still barred from serving alcohol and large gatherings of more than 25 people are also not allowed.

The emergency decree was also extended until Nov 30.

Pol Col Krissana said Pol Gen Suwat instructed his deputy, Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittiprapat, to coordinate with relevant agencies, such as public health offices, the military and local administrative organisations, in enforcing the law on individuals and businesses to prevent and contain the pandemic.

Where necessary the police will support other agencies. For example, the police will man roadside checkpoints also manned by officials from various agencies in conducting health screening.

The police will also inspect businesses, including restaurants, shopping malls and shops for any violation of measures remaining in place.
