Police thank motorist who reported suspect M74 drink driver at five times over the limit

Lanarkshire Police have thanked a member of the public who contacted them to report a motorist swerving and driving dangerously along the M74 near Bothwell this morning.

Road Police Scotland officers intercepted the Mercedes driver who was given a breathalyser test and found to be more than five times over the legal limit.

The suspect blew 116mg/ml when the legal limit is 22 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

The driver has been remanded in custody pending further enquiries and could face an automatic ban and fine.

Road Policing Scotland tweeted at 5.16am: "Thanks to the member of the public who alerted #LanarkshireRP to this driver swerving and driving dangerously slow on the #M74 at Bothwell earlier tonight."

"Driver traced and found to be drunk. Arrested/reported. #dontriskit #fatal5."
