Police tell residents 'keep windows and doors locked' after crime wave

Police have issued a warning to homeowners after several properties were targeted by thieves.

Officers say a number of houses in Billinge, near Wigan, were burgled this weekend in a series of incidents.

Residents are now being told to try and ensure entries to their home, such as windows and doors, are securely closed and locked.

In a post on Facebook, an officer from St Helens Police published a warning to anyone living around the Billinge area and asked them to call police immediately if they spot anything suspicious.

They said: "We are alerting residents to remain vigilant making sure windows and doors are locked.

"Keep valuables and keys out of sight. Keep your sheds locked too.

"There has been an increase in burglaries in the Billinge area this weekend.

"Call 999 if you see anyone acting suspiciously."

To report non-urgent crime in Wigan, call GMP on 101.
