To which Bromsgrove Police’s safer neighbourhood team wrote: “Maybe stop slagging them off??”

The comment was posted at 10.58am on January 3 but was rapidly deleted - but not before it had already been seen and retweeted thousands of times.

Social media users remained split over the police tweet, with some saying officers should spend more time "catching criminals".

Andy Howell said: “When the Bromsgrove Neighbourhood beat bobbies are sick of your whinging, you know you’ve gone too far Harry!”

Arthur Taylor commented: “Harry should get back to being the dimwit we all knew and tolerated while police should get back to failing to investigate burglaries and muggings.”

West Mercia Police responded and said the tweet was sent “in error” and was “unprofessional”.

A force spokesperson said: “We’re aware of a tweet which was sent in error from a force account this morning.

“While this was unprofessional and is not what we expect from our officers, we are satisfied that this was a genuine mistake and no further action will be taken.”
