Police tell landlords to remove pub's curtains and blinds to ensure they're not holding hidden lock-ins

Pub owners have been told they must keep their blinds and windows open as police chase landlords still failing to follow lockdown rules.

Officers in Bury took to social media to ask that anything covering the bar areas in local venues should be "removed immediately" so that they can be seen from the street.

It comes as police continue to receive reports about business flouting the latest coronavirus regulations.

All pubs, bars and restaurants have been told they must close their doors to avoid people gathering in one place but it is believed that some rogue landlords may still be running hidden lock-ins.

In a post on Facebook, an officer from GMP's Bury North team, said: "It has come to the attention of the police that some licensed establishments are not abiding by the rules set out by the government in relation to Covid-19 and are still trading.

"We request that any establishment that has erected obstructions that stop people looking through the windows (e.g. curtains or blinds) should remove them immediately.

"This only applies to the bar area."

The request comes after police Chief Constable Ian Hopkins hit out at bars that were remaining open despite the warnings.

He slammed the landlords of these venues and warned that anyone caught still open could have their licence revoked.
