Police tell drug crooks 'there's nowhere to hide' after Wishaw house raid

Dealers in Wishaw have been told there’s no place to hide following a huge seizure of drugs in the town.

Police officers raided a house in the Pather area of the town in the early hours of last Tuesday morning.

While there cops seized a huge haul of drugs believed to be cocaine and cannabis. Officers estimate the drugs have a current street value of £12,000.

DS Mark Nelson, from Motherwell Police Office, said: “Drugs have no place in our communities and we are committed to tackling such crimes.

“We continually gather intelligence and work within the communities throughout Lanarkshire to identify those who are intent on making money out of criminal activitiy.

“The public in Wishaw should be in no doubt that tackling the menace of illegal drugs is amongst our highest priorities. Anyone with any concerns or information regarding drugs in their area is asked to contact their local police office through 101.”

Police also confirmed that a 31-year-old man was arrested during the incident and is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

A Police Scotland spokesman added: “Acting on intelligence officers from the Public Protection Pro-Active Unit, based at Motherwell Police Station, attended at an address in the Pather area of Wishaw in the early hours of Tuesday, June 18.

“Following a search of a property a quantity of what’s believed to be cocaine and amphetamine was seized.

“A 31-year old-man was arrested and charged in connection with the seizure.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Motherwell and Wishaw Area Commander, Inspector Mark Leonard, insists stopping the supply of drugs is one of the division’s top priorities.

He said: “There is a clear coralation between of crimes of dishonesty and housebreaking to the supply and the taking of drugs. As well as organised crime we also have the problem of street dealers.”
