Police have told Gina Miller – who successully took the Government to court to demonstrate that parliament must take a decision on triggering Brexit – to avoid public spaces for her own safety.
The millionaire businesswoman, who was responsible for the legal challenge to Theresa May's plan to trigger Article 50 on her own authority using the 'royal prerogative', has been told it is unsafe for her to go outside after her family was targetted with abuse.
The 51-year-old complained to police after her children faced verbal attacks following her appearance on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show with Nigel Farage.
Ms Miller, speaking at a private members’ club in Mayfair, London, said: “It isn’t safe for me to go outside”, the Guardian reported.
She said the abuse her family had received “felt surreal”.
“I thought I did a court case about preserving the rule of law and the British constitution, and now on a Sunday afternoon I'm walking into a police station,” Ms Miller said.
“We knew it would be bad. But nothing like this, obviously. It's bullying of the worst degree, and I'm not going to let them win.
“This is not the society we have to live in. If anything, all this has proved, more than anything, is that I have to do this.”
The Government is set to challenge the High Court ruling that parliament must have a say in when Article 50 is triggered, a move which Ms Miller described as “unwinnable” and “ludicrous”.
