Police target youths in anti-social behaviour crackdown in Monifieth

Police clamping down on anti-social behaviour have targeted children in Monifieth.

Officers caught two youths aged 12 and 13 after disturbances were reported at the weekend.

The youngsters were ‘ causing annoyance ’ in the town’s High Street on Sunday when they were lifted.

They will both now be reported to the Youth Justice Assessor.

The move follows a sharp increase in serious disturbances and vandalism across Tayside and Dundee - with the most recent attack being upon the Brought Ferry lifeboat station.

Young thugs have also filmed themselves stealing cars and bikes and racing on the city’s streets.

While graffiti attacks on bus shelters and city landmarks, including Broughty Ferry Castle, have also been on the rise.

Tayside Police’s Inspector Mahboob Ahmad spoke following Sunday’s disturbance by the group of youngsters in Monifieth.

He said: “We are committed to reducing anti-social behaviour in our communities as we are aware of the upset it can cause.

“This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and anyone committing a crime will be dealt with appropriately.”
