Police tape off street in Beeston as car crashes into house

People in Beeston were evacuated after a car crashed into the wall of a house, as this dramatic picture shows.

The emergency services were called to the incident in Windsor Street just before midday on Thursday (February 11).

Firefighters said the car, which hit the gas box of the property, caused a gas leak.

They said the issue was isolated as the vehicle was made safe.

Witness Imran Ali, 35, who works at Wicked Haze Vape Store, in Queens Road, said police taped off the area outside of the shop.

Describing what happened, he said: "I've seen the police and stuff come, all the sirens and everything.

"I didn't know what was going on.

"We're obviously currently closed, we're only open for click and collect service.

"I've gone out and I've seen loads of police and fire engines.

"The car's basically gone into a property in the side street."

Mr Ali, who lives in Derby, said people in the area were told to evacuate.

He added: "I think it's damaged the gas pipe or something because you could smell gas outside.

"They've cleared up now, though - the road was closed off.

"They had it pretty much cordoned off, they've literally just cleared up in the last 10 minutes or so.

"There was a cordon outside our shop."

Police were called out to a "non-injury collision" at 11.45am in Windsor Street.

A spokeswoman for Nottinghamshire Police said there had been no arrests in connection with the incident.

A spokeswoman for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews from Highfields Fire Station attended an incident on Windsor Street, Beeston, at 11.53am today (February 11).

"A vehicle had come off the road and crashed into a house.

"When going into the house, the vehicle hit the gas box which caused a gas leak. Gas was isolated by Cadent Gas and the vehicle made safe."
