Police tape off Scots waterfront amid reports of man falling into water

A Scots waterfront has been taped off by police amid reports of a man in the water.

A huge emergency response descended onto Victoria Quay in Leith, Edinburgh, at 11.25pm last night. Despite an extensive search operation - including police, MH Coastguard Crews, Scottish Fire and Rescue teams and paramedics - the man is yet to be traced.

Specialist search resources are expected to arrive at the scene later today. Images from the incident show emergency services surrounding the water, with the coastguard team deploying a small boat before searching the area.

Locals reported a 'huge' emergency response with a crew of around 30 arriving at the incident last night.

One resident told Edinburgh Live: "Police, fire, fire water rescue, coast guard in attendance at Victoria Quay. Focus is on the water. At least 30 emergency service crew on site. It went 'quiet' from about 02:30 with a guard. As of 08:30, there is now a larger presence, including what looks like CID."

The man has still to be traced despite an extensive search involving police, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Scottish Ambulance Service and the Coastguard.

"The search will continue this morning and will also include officers from specialist search teams."
